With the support, guidance, and vision of her husband, Mark, they opened the Wild Rose Cafe & Deli in 1991. Customers would say. "Yumm, what is this?" The rice and bean bowls became so successful that Mark and Mary Ann opened a restaurant featuring their rice and bean theme. Cafe Yumm! became so popular, they opened two more locations in Eugene. After many requests to purchase their restaurant concept, Mark knew they had something special and turned to franchising. Go Roma

Successful team brings yet another successful concept with the help of customized manuals and training.

Situation

Go Roma's founding partners, who all came from the successful Chicago company Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises, came together a create a fast casual restaurant that provided fresh, great food with the ambience of fine dining. Go Roma opened its first restaurant in Warrenville, IL in 2003. By 2006 there were four locations in the Chicago area and the team looked to franchise the concept, but they needed expert guidance and assistance with their operations manual and training.

Gayle DeBrosse, Executive VP of Business Development and Franchise and Yorgo Koutsogiorgas, one of the partners, turned to Power Training and Development to assist them and their team in develop their customized operations manual and training. After many site visits, lots of taste testing, and a team effort, the final custom materials were created.

Go Roma' now has 8 locations and their first franchise location opens October 2007 in Tustin, CA. Because the framework was establsihed with the initial operations manual and training, Jill Torman, Training Manager, could easily make edits to the operations manual and station cards as the menu and procedures were fine-tuned prior to opening. Go Roma is now prepared to continue their growth, with plans to begin Franchising in 2008 . Go Roma was named a top Hot Concept for 2007 by Nation's Restaurant News.

Boeing

Situation

With the establishment of yearly corporate objectives, executives at the Boeing Company knew it was imperative to ensure that each and every employee’s performance was linked to these critical key objectives.

BoeingPower Training & Development, Inc. developed a small, easy-to-use informational booklet titled “Goal Setting” that was used by each employee in the development of their yearly performance objectives. In addition, Power Training & Development, Inc. facilitated department goal setting sessions with employees and several levels of management in attendance to clarify issues and concerns.

Wolfgang Puck Worldwide

Wolfgang Puck Worldwide, Inc. made a decision to franchise the Wolfgang Puck Express quick service restaurants which required their operations manuals to be developed in order to fulfill their UFOC requirement.

Solution

Power Training & Development created a series of dual purpose operations manusals used for reference as well as for training along with a unique method for providing Team Member training. The manuals included : Administration, Food & Beverage, Safety & Sanitation, Equipment, Management Development, and Team Training for all nine stations.

Result

In two and a half years, Wolfgang Puck more than doubled the number of Express units sold. The Franchisees said the manuals and training materials were the best they had ever seen.

Taco Bell
